Volvo Cars believes the global automotive industry should strive towards the introduction of a standardized charging infrastructure for electric cars, says Dr Peter Mertens, the company’s Senior Vice President for Research & Development.
 

To support this drive towards a global standard for electric car charging, Volvo Cars has decided to throw its weight behind the Charging Interface Initiative, a consortium of stakeholders that was founded to establish their Combined Charging System (CCS) as the standard for charging battery-powered vehicles.

Can you remember 1986?
 

It was a pretty amazing year. It was the  United Nations International Year of Peace. We celebrated Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day for the first time. It was the year of the the Challenger Space Shuttle disaster and Mike Tyson won his first ever boxing title. The film Out of Africa won Best Picture and Top Gun was the highest grossing film of the year. The first ever musicians were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

1986 was also the year the Volvo 480 ES was born.

Volvo recently announced that the new generation of Polestar Performance Optimization has been made available for Volvo’s award winning Drive-E T6 models with four-wheel drive. This is excellent news! Until recently, the optimization was only available for the all-new Volvo XC90 T6 AWD. However, it’s now available for the S60, V60 and XC60 T6 AWD models.

Only a few car companies can claim the same pedigree as Volvo Cars when it comes to the design and manufacture of family estates. In the United States, we call estate cars station wagons, but Volvo wagons are not your typical family grocery getters! That is why Volvo’s new V90 is so widely-anticipated.

WOW! The Volvo XC90 has done it again! Here’s ANOTHER award to place on the shelf!

The all-new Volvo XC90 T8 Twin Engine, the world’s first seven passenger plug-in hybrid SUV, has been named Green Car Journal’s 2016 Luxury Green Car of the Year. The XC90 T8 offers a combined 400 horsepower by way of a two-liter turbocharged and supercharged gas engine in front and an electric motor at the rear. Together, they deliver an EPA-rated 53 MPGe, making the all-wheel-drive XC90 T8 the world’s most powerful and efficient SUV.
 

Just in case you missed it back in January, Volvo Cars chose the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit to launch its new signature premium sedan, the Volvo S90! This underscores its long term commitment to the US market and provides a clear sign of its confidence in continued sales growth in the coming year.
